Reversi: from controls to your first round
Choose a round of Reversi and settle into its rules. When neither player has a legal move, the player with more discs on the board wins; equal totals are a draw. Look at what changes after your first action. Check the rule that explains your first action. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.
A focus for your next round
Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Use the example to check your reasoning.
Your goal
When neither player has a legal move, the player with more discs on the board wins; equal totals are a draw. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.
From the start of a round
- Black moves first. Highlighted cells show legal placements.
- Place a disc to trap one or more opponent discs in a straight line.
- Every trapped line from that placement is flipped.
- If a player has no legal move, the turn automatically passes.
Controls
Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.
Learn from a sample situation
Black–white–empty can become black–black–black when Black plays in the empty square. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Keep the game’s format in mind.
Keep this in mind
A placement must flip at least one opposing disc; simply placing beside your own discs is not enough. Check the rule before repeating the action. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
