Making your first moves in Crossword

Bring your attention to one round of Crossword. Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Solve 24 connected 15×15 layouts with 11–20 entries each. Use the original English clues and scroll the board on narrow screens; completed layouts may appear again.

Try a more deliberate round

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

Aim for this result

Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Keep the controls in easy reach.

The playing sequence

  1. Choose a numbered Across or Down clue to highlight its answer.
  2. Select a square and type a letter, or use the on-screen alphabet.
  3. Shared letters belong to both crossing answers. Selecting a shared square twice changes direction.
  4. Use Check entries to review entered letters. Reveal selected supplies one letter and counts as help.
  5. Complete every open square to solve the puzzle. Dark squares are not filled.

How to use the controls

Select a clue or square. Use your physical keyboard or the on-screen letters, Erase, Check entries and Reveal selected. Scroll within the board on a narrow screen. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

Follow the example

For “The planet on which we live” with five squares, enter EARTH. Any crossing answer must use the same letter at the shared square. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Check the stated objective.

Pay attention to this rule

Do not fill dark squares. A letter that fits one answer must also fit the crossing clue. Check the rule before repeating the action. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
